About PennySaver USA
Your town's savings paper, online.
For decades the PennySaver was the free paper that brought local deals, garage sales and classifieds to the door. PennySaver USA keeps that job and does it for the way people look for things now: on a phone, for their own town, this week.
Where the PennySaver came from
The PennySaver tradition goes back to the Great Depression. The paper as most people remember it began in 1962, when Bob DeMarco, a directory salesman, had an idea to start the Huntington Beach PennySaver. People went to his office and waited in line, cash in hand, to place their ads. Demand was so strong that he had to lock his doors at his noon deadline at the end of each week.
From there it grew into a mailed paper with 783 local delivery zones, reaching 9.1 million California households every week, with its mission unchanged: connect local buyers and sellers, and help local businesses grow in the communities they serve.
Did you know? The PennySaver holds the Guinness World Record for the largest piggy bank. The money put into it was donated to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Helping local businesses
We love small businesses. After all these years, we know that a local business needs to be found by the people who live nearby. Businesses can post deals free, and advertising with us puts them in front of readers looking for savings close to home.
What makes it different
It's local, and it's checked. A deal that ended last month or a sale that happened last weekend is no use to anyone, so everything here shows when it was checked or when it ends, and comes down when it's over. Our standards page explains how.
General information, not financial advice
Our articles and listings are general information, not financial, tax or legal advice for your situation. Prices, deals and rules change, so check with the store, business or agency before you act. Our terms of use say more.
How it's paid for
By advertising and, in some articles, by commissions on links. Neither changes what we write or which deals we show. Our advertising disclosure explains the rules. Businesses can post deals free; see for businesses.
Reading comfortably
The type is large and high in contrast, and the text-size switch in the header remembers your choice. See our accessibility page for the rest.
