Unclaimed money: search your state free
Banks, employers, utilities and insurers hand money they can't return to the state. Every state keeps a free list you can search by name.
Old bank accounts, uncashed paychecks, utility deposits, insurance payouts and refunds all end up with the state when the owner can't be found. The state holds the money until you claim it, often for years.
Searching and claiming are free. Ignore companies that offer to find your money for a fee: the state's own site does it for nothing. Search every state you've lived or worked in, and try old addresses and maiden names.
